There was Internet in 1996?

Posted December 20, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

Granted, I’m young-but-not-that-young. Still, I found this infographic highly entertaining as I don’t remember using anything more complicated than the library search engine to finish my college degree in 1996. With 2012 approaching, I thought it would be fun to share this infographic that compares the internet of 1996 with 2011. The times are a-constantly a-changin’ and this is a great reminder of how technology has increasingly moved businesses forward. Enjoy! Created by: Online University

Comparing Facebook and Google+

Posted December 15, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

I love the Infographics! I ran across this one below that compares the similar services offered through Google+ and Facebook, which can be cross-referenced when considering who uses Google+ and what the average day on Facebook looks like!

Who Uses Google+?

With all the talk about the Average Day for Facebook, I couldn’t help but post this infographic from Flowtown regarding who’s using Google+ as a comparison. What I find most uselful for both is the perceived number of “users” versus people who actually participate in each social media service. Food for thought!

Understanding Facebook Page Insights

Posted December 6, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

Right around Thanksgiving, Facebook Pages rolled out changes regarding their data-tracking system called “Insights.” If you have a Facebook business page, you can find the Insights link in the left sidebar underneath the business profile picture – the example below is the Verticalwerks business page. Purpose of Reading Facebook Insights No matter what social media outlet you decide to use, it’s important to be able to track your audience. For Facebook, these elements include: 1. Powerful Content – see what posts and content resonates with your audience (for example, on one of my business pages, it’s the photo of Bacon     Read the Rest…

Even Dentists Need Social Media

Posted November 29, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

One of my really good friends refuses to use Facebook. Unfortunately for me, I don’t get to see or talk with her that often, so keeping a connection through Facebook would be great. But when I say she “refuses” to use Facebook, I might be under-communicating her utmost dislike and ultimate stubbornness against it. With a roll of her eyes and the toss of her hair, she expounds on how she will never use it (NEVER!). So, in a fit of curiosity, I asked her why. I pointed out that she’s kept up with other technologies; for example, she texts     Read the Rest…

An Attitude of Gratitude in Business

Posted November 22, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

I’m currently caught in a cycle with this online registration forum that is quite frustrating. Once I attempt to register one of our clients with this pretty valuable forum, I receive an error message that says there’s a mysterious problem and to contact a representative through email or by phone. Caught up in the excitement of actually being able to cross tasks off my lengthy list, I emailed the necessary person and waited what I imagined was a reasonable amount of time. Within 24 hours, I received two emails in response to my inquiry. The first asked for more information     Read the Rest…

Posted November 10, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

It’s easier than ever to market your organization these days. With the evolution of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, word-of-mouth marketing can travel longer distances faster. You can easily hire someone to make a website to promote your business. And with easy-to-use design software, even a novice can make sharp-looking brochures and business cards. But if you’re able to market through all of these various outlets, remember that everyone else can too. So how do you make your floor scrubbers outshine the thousands of cleaning equipment options out there or help your brand of coffee stand out against     Read the Rest…

Periodic Table of SEO Ranking Factors

Posted November 8, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

As much as I love the library, I have to admit that I’m also a fan of the infographic, and this is no exception. Last week, we featured a video that briefly explained how Search Engine Optimization works. This chart is a different vehicle for the same – and more – valuable information regarding how your website is put together, maintained, and ranks with the search engines in order to get customers through the door. Search Engines are the Librarians of the Internet

Posted November 4, 2011 by Kelly Wilson

As a life-long, and therefore pale and drawn, lover of the library and all of the books within, I immediately connected with the information in this video. I was a library junkie BEFORE computers – that’s right, folks, I can operate an old-school card catalog and tell you how the Dewey Decimal system works. The title of this post – Search Engines are the Librarians of the Internet – is a direct quote from this informative, brief tutorial by Danny Sullivan over at SEOMoz on how Search Engine Optimization works and what makes it so important for your website.
